Without A Care: The History and Architecture of Sans Souci
The Sans Souci Historic District is a linear residential neighborhood located on the southeastern edge of Sans Souci Island in Waterloo, Black Hawk County, Iowa. The Sans Souci Historic District includes 16 residences that were contruscted from 1901 to 1941 with additions and conversions. The district extends along the east side of Sans Souci drive, a private street. The houses at Sans Souci were significant examples of several architectural styles and vernacular residential forms contructed between 1901 and 1958. Sans Souci Island was inundated during the historic June 2008 floods in Iowa.
